Bitumen Grades
Gasol Energy offers a range of Bitumen grades tailored to specific applications: Bitumen, also known as asphalt, is classified into different grades based on properties such as viscosity, penetration, and temperature susceptibility. Various organizations and countries may have their own specifications and grading systems for bitumen. Commonly used grading systems include penetration grades and performance grades:
Penetration Grades
Penetration Grade 40/50: This indicates the penetration value, which is a measure of the bitumen’s hardness or softness. The penetration value represents the distance a standard needle penetrates the bitumen sample under specified conditions (usually 25°C).
Penetration Grade 60/70: This grade is slightly softer than 40/50.
Penetration Grade 80/100: This grade is softer than both 40/50 and 60/70.
Performance Grades (PG)
PG58-XX: Performance grades are designed to address temperature susceptibility and are commonly used in the United States. The numbers following “PG” indicate the average seven-day maximum pavement design temperature in degrees Celsius. For example, PG58-XX is suitable for use in pavements with a design temperature of 58°C.
PG64-XX, PG70-XX, PG76-XX: These are examples of other performance grades with varying temperature susceptibility.
Viscosity Grades
VG10, VG20, VG30, VG40: Viscosity grades are based on the bitumen’s kinematic viscosity at 60°C. VG10 has the lowest viscosity, while VG40 has the highest.
Cutback Bitumen Grades
Rapid-Curing (RC): RC grades are produced by blending bitumen with a solvent (usually gasoline) to reduce viscosity. Grades include RC-30, RC-70, etc.
Medium-Curing (MC): Similar to RC, MC grades are produced by blending bitumen with a less volatile solvent.
Emulsion Bitumen Grades
Bitumen emulsions are mixtures of bitumen and water stabilized with emulsifying agents. Grades include CSS-1, CSS-1h, RS-1, RS-2, and others, each designed for specific applications like road construction and maintenance.
It’s important to note that the grading systems and specifications may vary between different countries and regions. Additionally, advancements in technology and changes in industry standards may result in the development of new bitumen grades to meet evolving performance and environmental requirements.
